If you haven’t been to the Raptor Trust, you really need to go. Only a 20 minute or so drive from Plainfield city, the Raptor Trust is an amazing organization that focuses on education regarding and rehabilitation of predatory birds. Founded by Leonard J. Soucy and his family first out their back yard in the 1970s, the Trust is now a large, thriving non-profit corporation. They have lots of amazing birds you can get close to (well sort of) and many interesting educational programs. The volunteers that make up the backbone of the organization are truly committed to and experts regarding some of the most essential wildlife species of NJ. Would it kill you to send a bit of cash their way? Nah. Recently I attended their biannual photo event, at $150 per person regularly scheduled in the spring and fall, and had a great time but you can go any time to see the birds and your donation can be whatever amount you can manage. Or better yet, get involved! They are always looking for people with energy and a passion for NJ wildlife.
